Localized patterns in the BZ-AOT system

Abstract:
Several localized patterns in reaction-diffusion systems are discussed: localized stationary spots, localized oscillatory spots (oscillons), breathing spots, localized oscillatory clusters, wave segments, localized waves, and moving spots. Localized patterns found experimentally in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction dispersed in water nanodroplets of water-in-oil microemulsion are considered the most thoroughly. They are stationary localized spots used for chemical memory, oscillons potentially useful for chemical processors, and localized waves applicable for communication between “memory” and “processor”. Theoretical models for localized patterns are also presented.
